Janet Pillai specializes in place-based arts, heritage & culture education and the use of creative pedagogies in cultural sustainability. Her work entails research, programming and managing community-engaged projects in partnership/ consultation with community, local agencies, artists and professionals. Janet is founder of Arts-ED, a community-based arts and culture education program for young people which helped produce a documentary and resource site featuring Malaysian community engaged arts practitioners and organised network meetings of Malaysian and Asian practitioners.

Sunitha Janamohanan has been an arts manager, producer, curator and heritage manager. Now teaching in the Programme in Arts Management at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, Sunitha has been working with Janet Pillai since 2014 on the documentation of community engaged arts practitioners in Malaysia, and has an interest in the development of the field as it relates to arts management. Sunitha is also a key person (in partnership with Janet Pillai) in the development and administration of this resource and network site.

CCD (Singapore) is a registered charity that aims to further critical discourse and quality arts practices with communities in Singapore and the region, e.g. its Community Cultural Development Symposium brings together a range of experienced local and foreign artists who work with communities. It also carries out research, documentation and evaluation of arts projects.

ArtsWok Collaborative connects communities by harnessing the power of the arts to create dialogue, invite social participation and build bridges across difference. We work with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement community-based arts projects, facilitate learning and exchanges through a community of practice, build capacity of practitioners through an action learning-incubator programme as well as conduct research and advocacy in the field of arts-based community development. ArtsWok Collaborative is a recipient of the National Arts Council’s Seed Grant for the period from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2018.

Wu Mali is a leading artist and theorist on community-based public art in Taiwan In her work, she thematises the role of the artist in society, among other things and frequently works closely with local communities in this connection. In recent years she has devoted much of her energy to organizing community art activities, with the aim of going beyond criticism and use creative thinking to push for real changes.

Mio Yachita is Assistant Director and Head of Cultural Affairs Department at the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur.

Her interests are; international cultural exchange, supporting system for the arts by private and public sector; and community-engaged arts programs especially in relation to Malaysia and Japan.

She had pursued her interest to community and arts throughout her education and had received a master’s degree in arts administration at Tokyo University of the Arts (GEIDAI). She also worked as an intern at Toride Art Project, one of the longest established community art organization in Japan.

Urban Research Plaza (URP) is a research center created by Osaka City University which features 'mobile' research facilities as strategic places for joint research and activities for community development with citizens and private and public sectors.

Prof. Sumiko Kumakura was a director at Kigyo Mecenat Kyogikai (Association for Corporate Support of the Arts) before she was appointed to establish a new department for cultural policy and arts management at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2002 where she was appointed as professor in 2010 She has been exploring the relationship between arts and civil society by working closely with students on several regional art projects, such as the “Toride Art Project” in Ibaraki Prefecture and “Art Access Adachi – Sound Town Senju’s Connections”.Prof. Kumakura is also an active member of several advisory boards on cultural policy for national and municipal governments.

Khemporn Wirunrapan is the manager of the Child and Youth Media Institute (CYMI), supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth). CYMI supports country-wide community projects initiated by NGOs, teachers, youth and community leaders that promote the health and well-being of young Thais. D’jung Spaces is a project managed by Dinsorsee Creative Group in collaboration with CYMI to promote and develop community-orientated creative spaces countrywide for children, young people, and families in Thailand.
